165 Hz screen and 24 GB RAM! ASUS ROG Phone 8 features revealed

ASUS is gearing up to release the gaming-focused ROG Phone 8, and details about its design and specifications have emerged. According to WindowsReport, a source known for industry leaks, the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone 8 series will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 8 series will have a more angular and sharp frame. The back panel will showcase a dual-tone color design, with shades of gray and black distinguishing between lighter and darker areas.

The smartphones will feature a square camera module in the bottom right corner, housing a triple camera setup with one main sensor and two auxiliary sensors. The resolution of these cameras is yet to be revealed. Additionally, gaming-oriented details like the ROG RGB logo will be incorporated into the devices.

The ROG Phone 8 series will sport a 6.78-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. The fingerprint reader will be located under the display for security. Both models will have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and an IP68 certification for durability.

The processor, manufactured using 4nm technology, will consist of one 3.3 GHz ARM Cortex-X4 core, three 3.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A720 cores, two 3.0 GHz ARM Cortex-A720 cores, and two 2.3 GHz ARM Cortex-A520 cores. The chipset will also include the Adreno 750 graphics unit with support for Ray Tracing.

In terms of RAM, the standard ROG Phone 8 will come with 12 GB LPDDR5x RAM and 256 GB UFS 4.0 storage. The Pro model, on the other hand, will offer 16/24 GB LPDDR5x RAM and either 512 GB or 1 TB UFS 4.0 internal storage. Both devices will run on Android 14. The official unveiling of the smartphones is set for January 1st.
